As you may have heard, the Florence Copper Project has been
postponed. At a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting held last night at
the Parkside Community Center, it was announced that the application by HDI
Curis to amend the Town of Florence General Plan to operate a copper mine near
the Anthem at Merrill Ranch Community is withdrawn until next year.
The company gave a presentation on the project and many residents
came out to express their opinions about it.
While the application is currently withdrawn, the company’s intent
is to continue to rally in support of the project and apply again next
year. The HOA remains in opposition of this project. If you would
like more information, please go to the portal.
The Florence Copper Project has proposed an amendment to the Town of Florence General Plan to operate a copper mine five miles from the Anthem at Merrill Ranch Community. Last month, many Anthem residents came to an open house held by the Florence Copper Project (HDI Curis) with great questions and concerns about the project. There are a couple more key dates coming up that are important to the general plan amendment process that the Florence Copper Project is going through that you should be aware of.
The August
5th Planning & Zoning Meeting will be held at the Parkside Community Center at 6:30 pm
and the public is invited to attend to ask questions of the Project. At
the August 19th
Town of Florence
Planning
& Zoning Commission (P & Z)
meeting, P & Z will
make a recommendation to the Town Council
to approve or
deny the Florence Copper Project’s general plan amendment. Though this
recommendation is not binding, the Town is asking for residents to
submit
letters and emails regarding comments about the copper mine to the Town
of Florence
Planning Director, Mark Eckhoff. His contact information is below. All
e-mails
and letters received will become part of the staff report that P & Z
will
present at the meeting.
